Please Return To God

People are definitely away from God because we chose to leave His fellowship (Eph 4:18; Col 1:21). We have forsaken God’s way (Isaiah 53:6; 1 Pt 2:25).

God does not want any of us to be outside of His salvation (2 Pt 3:9). He provided plenty of grace for us to return to Him through Jesus (Jn 14:6; 1 Tm 2:5). We need to forsake our sins (Is 55:7). Develop faith (Hb 11:6). Repent and follow Christ’s teachings (Ac 3:19), with our whole heart (1 Kg 8:48). We must confess that Jesus is the Son of God (Mt. 10:32). And we must be born into His Kingdom through baptism (Jn 3:3,5; Ro 6:1-4).

Why should we return to God? We should because unforgiven sin brings eternal death (Ro 6:23). Coming back to God brings His mercy to us (Is 55:7). We can only be in His Kingdom if we return to His favor (Mt 18:3). None of us will be saved outside of God (Hb 7:25). We will miss eternal life if we don’t return to God (Jn 5:40). We will never find the rich blessings reserved only for those in Christ (Ep 1:3) if we remain away from the God who loves. Us.

You can return to God if you do not refuse Him (Jn 5:40). The great opportunity is yours right now won’t you please return to God today? (Lk 13:24-29).

    This was my post for today. A real big reason to return to God.

    The way of the Lord is not just.

    For much of Christianity, we have a very convenient gospel. This convenient gospel is the assured salvation of those who confess Christ as Lord. I am not bringing to issue the assurance one can have concerning their hope of salvation, but the dogma that teaches an assurance no matter the behavior of the believer.

    I have read from several sources the notion that goes something like this. If an athlete in a race doesn’t win the race or even possibly not finish the race, this doesn’t make it so he is no longer an athlete. So it is applied to the believer. If a Christian doesn’t act saved, it doesn’t mean he is not saved. Many scripture, I would argue, are misrepresented by men to show how applicable this doctrine of salvation is applicable in scripture.

    So now we have the house of Israel of whom we are assured will call the way of the Lord unjust.

    Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are my ways unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?[1]

    God declares it is not his ways that are unjust but the people’s way that is unjust. So what was the feud the people had with God?

    God declared that a man who is a sinner will die in his sins. But if this man repents, and changes his ways and makes things right he will live. And to this Israel was happy.

    God then declared if a man who is righteous, turns from his righteousness, none of his former righteousness will be remembered and he will die in his sin. And to this the people call God’s ways unjust.

    Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live? “But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die. “Yet you say, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Hear, O house of Israel: Is my way unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust? If a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin, he will die for it; because of the sin he has committed he will die. But if a wicked man turns away from the wickedness he has committed and does what is just and right, he will save his life. Because he considers all the offenses he has committed and turns away from them, he will surely live; he will not die. Yet the house of Israel says, ‘The way of the Lord is not just.’ Are my ways unjust, O house of Israel? Is it not your ways that are unjust?[2]

    Now immediately those who hold to the doctrine of salvation that is not dependant upon the believers obedience, will reject this as Old Testament and not applicable for the believer to day. They would argue we are under a New Covenant.

    With much activity it will be demonstrated that such a notion of being steadfast to the end in order to make ones hope sure, is not what is preached in the New Testament.

    We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure.[3]

    It will be demonstrated that the saved are simply not acting saved, even though they are saved. It will not be remembered that this was spoken so that the people of God would not become lazy and consequently not persevere to the end. Instead the writer wanted to see them be like those who persevered patiently for what they hoped for.

    We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.[4]

    To which this too will be utterly rejected by those whose doctrine defends once saved always saved. Let it ring from the pulpit, how it doesn’t matter how a believer lives, they can never loose their salvation. But sadly, we do not have the last word.

    How sad too, think of so many who are willing to reject warnings in scripture as warnings to them. Instead they are relegated to the unbelievers, for they could not possibly be applicable to those who are saved. How tragic to think that many will on that day say, “The way of the Lord is unjust.” When they find their confession of faith was in vain and all their former righteousness was not remembered. Sadly again, for woe to them who do not remain in their faith.

    Wasn’t there a really nice man who once said:

    If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.[5]

    Oh, who cares anyway?
