There is The Way!

February 15, 2010

The WayMy heritage in the Lord has been a blessed one.  I have had many friends, mentors and parents in the Lord.  The great thing about growing up in rural country congregations is the unity that exists within the family of God.  People view each other as family, even closer than family.  Much like the soldier or policeman views his fellow worker, my Christian family was bound by the unified teaching, goals and efforts together.

I remember one dear saint who moved to Texas from Michigan.  Brother Pentecost was his name.  He used to love to lead the church in singing the old gospel song “There is Just One Way to the Pearly Gate.”  His love for that song inspired many of us to sing with more fervor.

That song doesn’t reflect what is reality in the religious world doctrine.  Frankly, I get confused by so many different denominations, divisions and teachings all claiming to be the message of Truth.  How can it be that there is just one way but so many differing doctrines?

I am reminded of Jesus passionate prayer …

And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
(John 17:19-23)

Jesus wanted a unified group of believers.  He even gave the standard for unity the word of Truth (John 17:17).  We should all be working for unity.  Working toward bringing the message of truth that will unite all men to follow the Lord.  Remember that Jesus said “I am the way the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

Unity comes when we all follow Christ the Way, when we abide in him and him in us.  You will find the richest blessings in life when you have that kind of fellowship with the Father, Christ and fellow saints.
